Glass Manufacturing Capabilities

Re-draw Tubing:

Our process starts with glass tubing, which is heated until it softens sufficiently to be pulled or “re-drawn.” Our process of manufacturing precision tubing with ID and OD tolerances as low as .001″ is used in many micro and nano applications. This includes fiber optics and analysis work, where flow cells of 1mm or multi-bore cells with 120ul are required. We also manufacture using many glass types for electronic and optical tubing.

OD Range .002″ to .475″
ID Range .0005″ to .425″
Length .30″ to 60″

Mandrel Draw Tubing: (Precision Bore)

Similar to redraw, mandrel drawn tubing utilizes specific shapes, such as triangular, rectangular, square or other geometric shapes. . This is accomplished by pulling the glass over a precision mandrel and shrinking the glass to the exact shape of the mandrel +/- .001″.

OD Range .010″ to 2.50″
ID Range .010″ to 2.25″
Length .030″ to 10″

Fabricating:

Grinding: To insure tolerances within .0005″ or concentricity of .0005″ we grind the OD to customer specification
To achieve a parallel and square ends within .0005″ we blanchard grind ends
Polishing: Mechanical OD Polishing to a 60/40 scratch dig.
Firepolishing end for a clear and smooth finish.
Custom Glassblowing:
Specializing in the design and production of custom glassware, AIT can create pieces in borosilicate and quartz. We offer a range of custom hand and automated tooling. Flanged, flat bottomed, round bottomed and beaded finishes are available.
Drilling: From .020” to .060″ diameter to customer specifications.
Laser Etching: Sand-blasting is done by pressure-spraying a fine abrasive onto the glass, giving the appearance of a soft frosted finish.
Silk Screening:  Graduation for volumetric measurements.
